Science is undoubtedly important in our lives. From the daily conveniences that it offer, to the deeply transformative impacts it has on the future of mankind, it is a no-brainer when we talk about the value of science in our lives.
That is why, over here at Operation Einstein, we are more than happy to celebrate World Science Day.
World Science Day is celebrated every year on the 10th of November. UNESCO first proclaimed World Science Day for Peace and Development on 2001, which is aimed at bringing more awareness towards the role of science in building peaceful and sustainable societies.
This year's theme of "Open Science, leave no one behind" resonates extremely strongly with our team of students committed to bringing science to all. The growing movement to make science research and data accessible and available is able to be a game changer for many countries, including Singapore, to achieve Sustainable Development Goals.
While, prima facie, the celebration of this event seems to be more so geared towards the promotion of science as an engine of growth in developing countries, we strongly believe that there is much value in the message, especially when it comes to what Operation Einstein is about.
This mirrors our purpose and philosophy at Operation Einstein, where we strongly believe that science should be open and experienced by all, and no child should be left behind when it comes to all the fun involved in a science education.
By adopting a hands on, tactile approach to learning science, our volunteers are committed to guiding our beneficiaries to find the scientific explanations themselves.
This is of course, more rewarding for the children as compared to spoon-feeding them answers, as they get the added benefit of being the ones who figured it out!
True to the theme of World Science Day, we strongly believe that everyone can be a scientist and we are equipped with the tools to help our beneficiaries unlock their curiosity, formulate their own ideas and questions, and ultimately go through their own unique learning journey!
